Prime Minister Hun Sen said that Cambodia is monitoring the current situation in Myanmar as Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi and other senior figures from the ruling party have been detained in an early morning raid.
Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony for Bakheng Water Treatment Plant and inauguration of Chamkar Mon Water Treatment Plant in Chroy Changva district today, Mr Hun Sen said he will not comment on what has occurred in Myanmar.
“As something is happening in Myanmar, Cambodia is monitoring this current situation, but I will not make any commentary on this,” he said.
Mr Hun Sen said as a member state of Asean, Cambodia will not make any comment on it because it is Myanmar’s internal issue.
According to Reuters, Aung San Suu Kyi and other senior figures from the ruling party have been detained in an early morning raid. The move came after days of escalating tension between the civilian government and the powerful military that stirred fears of a coup in the aftermath of an election the army says was fraudulent, it said.
