Malaysia’s Tan Sri Chen Lip Keong donates $5 million (the biggest donor so far ) for Cambodia’s COVID-19 vaccine f und

PHNOM PENH – Philanthropist billionaire (Forbes 2019 USD 5.3 billion, Malaysia’s 4th richest man ) Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Chen Lip Keong, has rallied to the aid of the Royal Government of Cambodia with a contribution of a whopping $5 million for the procurement of COVID-19 vaccines for the Cambodian people.
The founder and Chief Executive Officer of NagaCorp, the largest integrated resort in Cambodia, Tan Sri Chen, with this donation, has become the single largest donor to date.
Prime Minister Hun Sen had announced on 7 December that he has instructed the Ministry of Economy and Finance to allocate funds to purchase COVID-19 vaccines and if there were insufficient funds, to appeal to development partners and donors for the funds.
Up to Saturday 6pm, more than $40 million has been collected for this fund from philanthropists like Tan Sri Chen and other tycoons in the country as well as common people who have rallied to the government’s vision of providing free vaccines for Cambodians.
Up to 10 million Cambodians are expected to be vaccinated in this programme.
This is not the first time Tan Sri Chen has contributed to the government. He has also contributed generously towards another COVID-19 fund to assist the government in its fight against the virus, as well as to the Cambodian Red Cross, flood relief, sports and under privileged children.
Prime Minister Hun Sen, in a letter said “The contribution of Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Chen Lip Keong is invaluable and will always be remembered in the history of the people of Cambodia.”
