JAKARTA, Indonesia – K-Pop girl group Blackpink has made some Indonesians see red with their racy concert in Jakarta and sexy cameo in a Shopee commercial.
“[They] wear tight fitting dresses that don’t even cover their thighs. Their dance moves and facial expressions are also very provocative. They don’t reflect our civilized Pancasila values,” Maimon Herawati wrote on a Change.org petition to take down the commercial.
At the time of writing, the petition has received more than 88,200 signatures out of the targeted 150,000.
However, the Indonesian K-Pop community is not taking the criticism lying down, and has used the petition to incite a lively public debate on what constitutes Indonesian moral values against conservative netizens.
