The Ministry of Environment has issued a reminder to the public that free saplings are now available, as part of efforts to encourage people to take part in efforts to increase green cover across the Kingdom.
Environment minister Eang Sophalleth noted that the “Green Sprouts” campaign, a large-scale initiative to distribute saplings free of charge to the public for planting during the 2026 rainy season, was launched under the guidance of Prime Minister Hun Manet.
He explained that the ministry’s regional nurseries have produced millions of young trees, and that additional saplings are available from environmental department nurseries across the country.
The campaign aims to expand forest cover and support Cambodia’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
Last year, more than 3.4 million saplings were distributed free of charge. This year, the ministry plans to distribute up to five million, including hardwood timber species such as beng, neang nuon, kranhoung (rosewood) and thnong, as well as fruit trees, ornamental trees and 1.5 million sugar palm seedlings.
The saplings will be provided to schools, pagodas, communities and members of the public for planting during the 2026 rainy season.
