PHNOM PENH–Around 2,569 Buddhist monks from two sects—Maha Nikaya and Dhammayuttika Nikaya—are joining a peace pilgrimage on August 10 at 3 PM in Phnom Penh.
The purpose of the pilgrimage is to advocate for a permanent ceasefire and to promote lasting peace, stability, and safety in both Cambodia and Thailand. Additionally, the pilgrimage includes offering alms to encourage the Thai authorities to release the remaining 18 captured soldiers.
Armed clashes between the Cambodian and Thai militaries took place from July 24 through 28 along the border, forcing thousands of Cambodian and Thai civilians to flee for safety. Despite the ceasefire agreement reached on July 28, both countries continued to accuse each other of violating the ceasefire up until the GBC meeting, where both agreed in the 13 joint commitment points.
