PHNOM PENH – “The Taste of Angkor 2” cookbook has won the Special Award of the Jury at the 30th Gourmand Awards at the Cascais World Food Summit in Lisbon.
This follows the success of the first edition, which won four international awards, Best Asian Cookbook in 2021, Best Asian Cuisine Book, Heads of State/Food in 2022 and Best Television Award in 2023.
The event was attended by 200 participants in the Portuguese capital.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation released the edition on March 3 to continue promoting the legacy of Khmer cuisine and implementing Cambodia’s economic diplomacy strategy.
The book features 38 popular Khmer dishes and desserts, showcasing Cambodia’s agricultural products and geographical indications, such as romduol rice, Kampot pepper, Kampot-Kep salt and Kampong Speu palm sugar.
Edouard Cointreau, chairman of the awards committee, said the ministry had made significant efforts to promote the art of Khmer cuisine, encouraging the world to study and understand the Khmer people, a mindset that has never been seen before.
He said the second edition features insightful studies that celebrate Cambodia’s past, present strategies and anticipate its future.
The ministry says the award is a significant achievement by the government, aiming to boost national prestige and achieve Cambodia’s goal of becoming a high-income country by 2050.
