A large modern-art statue of a hilltribe woman’s head was removed back to a museum after some Thai netizens claim it’s inauspicious to be placed publicly near Mae Sai river and caused the massive flash flood in Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai province last week. Netizens said the statue, known as the ‘Angel of Maesai’ was a bad omen because there’s only a head and no body.
Famous Chiang Rai artist Chalermchai Ksitpipat said “this country is insane” because some people believe in such superstition, and ordered the artwork back to Chiangrai Contemporary Art Museum
