The Department of Culture and Fine Arts of Kampong Speu Province, in collaboration with the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia of Kampong Speu (UYFC), Samrong Tong District Administration, and the Kampong Speu ox-carts association, will celebrate the 2024 ox-cart race, which will take place on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. in Prey Romduol village, Trapeang Kong commune, Samrong Tong district, Kampong Speu province.

This ceremony is held in order to participate in the preservation, promotion, development, and dissemination more widely in accordance with the context of the current society of the tradition of ox-cart racing in Kampong Speu province, which Khmer ancestors have left for a long time.

According to the study of the history of this ceremony, the ox cart was used only to transport the dowry in the wedding ceremony and to transport the grandparents to participate in the wedding ceremony, traditional festival, and other festivals.

Later, the villagers also initiated the idea of establishing ox-cart racing in the villages in the community and in the town to celebrate before the Khmer traditional New Year.

Ox-cart race will be held on April 7 in Kampong Speu Province
