MYANMAR – Yangon unveils ambitious walking Thingyan celebration plans

Water throwing pandals will be built in districts in addition to walking Thingyan in Yangon, according to the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC).

YANGON – In Yangon, the YCDC held a business coordination meeting to ensure that Thingyan Festival is held in full swing at the meeting hall on the first floor of the office of the YCDC.

Yangon City Development Committee Deputy Chairman (Deputy Mayor) U Nyi Nyi, secretary and committee members, Heads of departments and relevant officials attended the meeting.

The working committee for preparation, opening and closing ceremony, working committee for invitation and entertainment, working committee for water playing, working committee for hospitality, working committee for transportation, working committee for traffic management, working committee for security and regulatory affairs, finance, awarding and award winners collection working committee, working committee for evaluation, working committee for health, working committee for cleanliness, working committee for walking Thingyan, working committee to welcome people and the Office of the Great Thingyan Organizing Committee presented the preparations at the meeting, announced the YCDC.

The Deputy Mayor said that the Yangon City Hall will be crowded with the Yangon Grand Thingyan Pandal. In addition, there are water throwing pandals in the public square, in districts, swing dance performances and awards giving ceremony. He said about the installation of CCTV cameras for security during Thingyan period.

In addition to musical performances of film, music and dramatic artists, university level, basic education level, preschool level, and office/other departments, freelance level Thingyan dance competitions and ethnic traditional cultural dance performances will be included in this year’s Yangon Grand Thingyan Water Festival.
