The 9th India International Dance and Music Festival in Delhi to celebrate the harmonious convergence of diverse cultures and traditions.

The Bac Ninh province’s delegation attended the 9th India International Dance and Music Festival in India.

The artists and actors of the Bac Ninh Quan Ho Folk Theater bring to the festival Quan Ho (love duet) songs, contributing to continuing to introduce and promote the intangible cultural heritage of Quan ho Bac Ninh folk songs to international friends.

Quan Ho is a form of folk singing characterized by a duet format. The male singers, known as “lien anh”, wear traditional attire of folded scarves and “the” shirts, while the female singers, known as “lien chi”, don elegant dresses and round hats made from palm leaves with long silk straps.

They sing together in pairs, delivering simple and soulful verses in a traditional style that does not require musical accompaniment yet remains melodious. The singing showcases the refined cultural essence of the Quan Ho community.

In 2009, with its exemplary and distinctive cultural values, Bac Ninh’s Quan Ho folk songs were inscribed by UNESCO into the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

A delegation from the northern province of Bac Ninh took part in the 9th International Dance and Music Festival, which was held in New Delhi from October 18 to 20.

The festival was organized by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) and featured performance groups from more than 12 countries and territories including Romania; Kyrgyzstan; Sri Lanka; Thailand; Panama; Croatia; Kazakhstan; Vietnam; Taiwan (China); Russia; Iraq; and Turkmenistan.

The three-day extravaganza highlights the rich cultural tapestry of India and the world, bringing together talented artists from various countries to showcase their extraordinary talents.

The audience was swept away after listening to the euphonious music of Elisa Troetsch from Panama while artists from Croatia performed the sword dance Kumpanija or battle dance which represents the tradition of the local militia that used to protect the town.

Within the framework of the festival, on October 21, Bac Ninh Quan Ho Folk Theater performed at Kashinath Ghanekar Theater, Thane district, Maharashtra state, India to continue introducing and promoting the cultural intangible heritage of Bac Ninh Quan ho folk songs.
