PHNOM PENH – Selling tickets for the opening, closing or matches of the upcoming 32nd SEA Games is prohibited, Prime Minister Hun Sen has warned.
The statement followed an announcement on Mar. 28 that tickets would cost from 100,000 riel ($25) to 200,000 riel ($50).
The price, however, had not received approval from Tea Banh, the head of the Cambodia SEA Games Organizing Committee (CAMSOC) and the PM, Hun Sen said on Mar. 30 through his Telegram channel.
“We have spent hundreds of millions of dollars on foundation materials and technical assistance and spent with China’s assistance on infrastructure, spending a long time building the base of the tournament,” he said.
“I will definitely not allow the act of selling tickets for SEA Games events.”
People would be able to watch the Games in person without being charged.
At a meeting on Mar. 31, the Prime Minister asked Information Minister Khieu Kanharith to lower the price or set no price for international media who want to broadcast events.
On his Facebook account, the Information Minister announced that there would be no charge for broadcasting the Games for international media.
The PM added that any group or individual defying this order would face consequences from him and the law.
The Games, hosted by Cambodia, will run from May 5 to 17 at the Morodok Techo National Stadium in Phnom Penh.
