The acting president of the royalist FUNCINPEC, Prince Norodom Chakravuth, said that the party is scheduled to hold a congress. Prior to the scheduled congress, Prince Norodom Chakravuth called for party unity.
Due to the recent split and various internal conflicts, the party, which once won seats in the National Assembly and co-lead the government, no longer has a seat in the current National Assembly.
Prince Norodom Chakravuth called for the party elders and allies to unite to revive the party which is currently losing popularity due to racism and internal jealousy, among other things.
During a meeting with party associates from the capital and provinces on the night of December 30, Prince Norodom Chakravuth said that if they love the party and want the party – which is the legacy of the late King-Father Norodom Sihanouk – to progress, they should stop quarrelling and inciting discrimination.
Prince Norodom Chakravuth said: “Before we held the congress, I want us to meet first, some people have not seen me for a long time, and some provinces I have visited and I will continue to visit again.”
On that occasion, Prince Norodom Chakravuth said that from the beginning, he had seen and heard disagreements between the party leaders many times, but nevertheless he expected members to shake hands again for the progress of the party and advance to the upcoming election.
Prince Norodom Chakravuth said that he is committed to leading the party and is confident that the party will improve. In addition, he instructed his party members and allies to make more efforts to serve the people and contribute to the development of the country.
