Prime Minister Hun Sen on May 14 awarded 10 million riel ($2,500) to a Cambodian woman who became the country’s 2,000,000th to receive Covid-19 vaccine.
“Today, May 14, 2021, we found the 2,000,000th person named Tit Chenda, 23, a factory worker who will receive an incentive of 10 million riel,” Hun Sen said in a Facebook post.
He told Ministry of Health spokeswoman Or Vandine, who is also head of the national Covid-19 vaccination commission, to provide the cash to her.
Hun Sen said the same amount was provided to the 1,000,000th person, Pan Sovanrith, on April 11. His son Hun Manet was the first to receive the jab on February 10.
“Vaccination is being carried out in our blossom strategy, starting in Phnom Penh and the main urban areas around the capital and in Kandal province before gradually expanding to other areas nationwide in the order of prioritisation.
“Through this approach, we put out the fire rather than fanning the flame. There are no other alternatives better than providing vaccines to our people,” he said, adding that countries around the world have also strived to contain the pandemic and protect the lives of their people through vaccination.
