Pham Minh Chinh, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Organization Commission, has become the prime minister of Vietnam with the backing of 462 National Assembly deputies out of 466 present.

The appointment was made according to a resolution released by the National Assembly on April 5.

Chinh will replace his predecessor Nguyen Xuan Phuc, who was elected as State President on the same day.

He took the oath of office and pledged full allegiance to the motherland, people and constitution of Vietnam, and vowed to work hard to fulfill the duties entrusted by the Party, State and People.

Chinh is the ninth leader of the government since 1945.
