State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi said on April 21, lauded the benefits provided by the social media in reaching out to the people and directly communicating with them.

She said live video streaming technology used by social media sites has helped a lot in reaching people and discussing their needs on how to overcome the challenges posed by COVID-19.

“I immediately fill the gaps for what is needed after the discussing with the Ministry of Health and Sports and other ministries,” she said in her latest Facebook post.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi said that immediately after her live-streamed dialogue with people in Ayeyarwady Region, she was able to immediately respond to their concerns by arranging for deliveries of face masks, thermometers, personal protective equipment and gloves, among others.

The State Counsellor admitted in her first post on April 1 that she is not an avid fan of social media but recognised its importance in reaching out to people.

Myanmar has an estimated 21.76 million Facebook users, or more than a third of its estimated 53.37 million people.
