MAMASA, Indonesia – Mamasa in West Sulawesi is famous for its colorful woven cloth made on traditional wooden looms.
Here a woman weaves a Mamasa cloth at a workshop in Balla, a village in the Mamasa District, on Thursday. A roll of Mamasa fabric can fetch between Rp 300,000 and Rp 700,000 ($22-$50) depending on the intricacy of the motifs and the size of the cloth. Most of the exquisite fabric is sold locally, though some do find their way overseas.
