Thai Trade Fair in Cambodia draws more than 200 exhibitors and thousands of visitors

PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA – Several thousand people, both locals and foreigners, visited the Top Thai Brands 2020 trade fair held over three days from Feb 6 to 9 at the Koh Pich Exhibition and Convention Centre in Phnom Penh.

The trade fair was a high-profile event that was attended by top Cambodian and Thai Government officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Jurin Laksanawisit of Thailand and Cambodia’s Minister of Commerce Pan Sorasak.

There were more than 200 companies from Thailand and Cambodia that participated in the event, which was primarily intended to promote Thai-made products and develop partnerships between Thai companies and their counterparts from Cambodia and other countries.

Close to 70 of the participating companies were from the food and beverage (F&B) sector. These included some of the most well-known names in the Thai F&B sector, including Dutch Mill, Thai Edible Oil, Singha Corp, BETAGRO, Lactasoy and Mitr Phol Sugar Corp.

Smaller companies such as First Confectionery, Bee Products, Foodstar, Globo Foods, Diamond Preserved Food, Global Food Trading, IMG Corp, Green Tea and The Peace Canning were also represented. Many Thai companies that manufacture electronics, garments, baby products, beauty accessories, household items and medical supplies were also there.

Chip Mong Group, one of the biggest business conglomerates in Cambodia, was also among the exhibitors.

The attendees had a field day looking through thousands of Thai products for sale and on display.

Many of the visitors congregated along a long row of booths that were displaying and selling many popular Thai food products such as Thai Milk Tea, Coconut Roll and Soya Milk.

Many products were selling at a discount and many of the visitors were able to get a free taste of them, especially on the third and last day of the exhibition.

The Top Thai Brands 2020  was primarily organised by the Department of International Trade Promotion of the Royal Thai Government’s Ministry of Commerce.

Lately, there have been intensified efforts to strengthen trade ties between Cambodia and Thailand.

This is apparently part of an effort by local investors to expand their network across Indochina and South Asia with the help of the Thai Government.

Last month, the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau organised the Thailand Cambodia Business Forum in Phnom Penh.

Trade between Cambodia and Thailand hit just over $9 billion last year, according to figures from the Thai embassy.
