Jakarta – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has received the state visit of Japan Foreign Affairs Minister Motegi Toshimitsu today, January 10. During the meeting, both discussed the Indonesia-Japan economic ties.

“Japan is one of Indonesia’s main partners. I know that Your Excellency will hold a meeting with the Indonesian minister to discuss the bilateral partnership in more detail,” said the President in his opening speech at State Palace, Jakarta.

According to the state head, several partnership programs of the two countries will be prioritized. One of them, he added, the government would invite Japan to make another investment in Natuna, Riau Islands.

The former governor of Jakarta said Indonesia lauded the ties with Japan on the development of the first integrated marine and fisheries center (SKPT) in Natuna. “I hope the investment offer for the second phase can be followed up soon,” the President remarked.

He assumed Motegi would be interested in the partnership offer as the latter previously served as Japan’s economy minister. “As a foreign affairs minister with an economic background, I believe Your Excellency will put extra concern on economic diplomacy.”

Accompanying President Jokowi during Japan’s visit were State Secretary Minister Pratikno, Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi.
