BANDUNG, Indonesia – Some 2,000 participants from various provinces – including local students, foreign exchange students studying in Bandung and foreign delegates – took part in the 2018 Asia Africa Carnival in Bandung on Saturday, April 28.
The carnival was held as part of the commemoration of the 63rd anniversary of the Asia Africa Conference. To honor the participants dressed in traditional costumes, the organizers also held a competition for best dressed. Many participants tried to look different by combining traditional costumes with contemporary styles.

The Lamandau regency contingent from Central Kalimantan, featured different masks usually worn by Dayak people to perform the Babukung dance or to cheer up those in mourning.
Other participants from Banjar regency in West Java performed the Jurig Sarengseng, a ritual traditionally performed to cleanse the village of Binangun in Pataruman district from bad deeds. They wore make up and costumes resembling devils to represent bad deeds.
These various performances thrilled locals and overseas tourists alike.[yan]
