FFI (Fauna & Flora International-Myanmar) has just launched a programme designed to protect wildlife while generating income for local people. It has employed fashion designer Yudhi Adhimiharja to teach local women in Indawgyi how to produce eco-fashion.

The products are made from locally woven Kachin style textiles and will be sold to eco-tourists at Inn Chit Thu (The lovers of Indawgyi), a local conservation and eco-tourism community group that caters to visitors to Indawgyi Lake.

The sale of the products will promote the conservation of water birds and help to raise income for local women, FFI said in a statement on 27 April.
